Welcome to the transformative journey of becoming an ordained minister in the Fellowship of Integral Spirituality. Embracing a diverse mosaic of interfaith spiritual principles, our ordination process invites individuals to explore the depth of integral spirituality and contribute meaningfully to the spiritual landscape.
We recognize that a Master of Divinity (M.Div.) degree from an accredited institution is a path traditionally rooted in Christian theological education. While it serves as one possible foundation for FOIS ministers, we also honor the diverse ways in which spiritual leaders are formed. We welcome candidates with an equivalently profound theological education, spiritual mentorship, or training in their respective traditions—be it through Hindu, Buddhist, Indigenous, or other spiritual paths—who can articulate a deep theological, spiritual, and pastoral understanding of ministry. Our commitment is to the richness of diverse spiritual backgrounds and to fostering ministers who embody the principles of integral spirituality in their practice and teaching.
Candidates should be able to profoundly articulate the principles of integral spirituality and demonstrate how these principles play out in their ministry to others. Further training may be recommended by an ordination committee based on the candidate's initial assessment, ensuring a deep understanding of the interconnected nature of spiritual experiences.
Our ordained ministers embrace an interfaith perspective, respecting and appreciating the diversity of spiritual traditions. A deep appreciation of various faiths and practices is integral to fostering inclusive and harmonious spiritual communities.
The ordination process includes a focus on personal and spiritual growth. Ministers engage in reflective practices, exploring their own spiritual journeys, and developing the wisdom and compassion needed to guide others on their paths.
Aspiring ministers actively participate in community service initiatives and demonstrate leadership qualities. This hands-on experience allows individuals to apply their spiritual teachings in practical ways, fostering a sense of responsibility and connection to the larger community.
Candidates must submit a comprehensive 10 - 15-page essay detailing the following aspects:
Educational Background and Training: Outline your academic journey, including degrees earned, coursework, and any additional relevant training.
Spiritual Journey: Share the evolution of your spiritual path, including significant experiences, influences, and moments of awakening.
Commitment to Integral Spirituality: Articulate your understanding of integral spirituality principles and what specific aspects resonate with your personal beliefs and practices.
Appreciation for Interspiritual, Interfaith, or Multifaith Spirituality: Discuss how diverse spiritual traditions have influenced your understanding of spirituality and how you envision promoting inclusivity within your ministry.
This comprehensive essay provides the ordination committee with insights into your background, beliefs, and alignment with the core values of the Fellowship of Integral Spirituality.
Shortlisted candidates participate in an interview process to further explore their alignment with the Fellowship's values. This step aims to ensure a strong connection between the candidate's beliefs and the integral spirituality principles upheld by the community.
Successful candidates undergo specialized training and mentorship programs. This phase includes in-depth exploration of integral spirituality, interfaith understanding, and practical guidance on ministerial responsibilities.
The journey culminates in a ceremony of ordination, a sacred event where candidates are formally recognized as ministers within the Fellowship of Integral Spirituality. This ceremony is a celebration of commitment, growth, and a shared dedication to fostering inclusive spiritual communities.
